Australian-Japanese Association of the NT Inc.

The Australian-Japanese Association of the NT Inc was formed in 1989 to act as the official channel of communication between the Embassy of Japan in Australia, the Consul-General of Japan to the NT and the Japanese community of Darwin.

It is a not-for-profit community based organisation solely run by volunteers.

The association aims to foster greater understanding between Australian and Japanese people, especially through cultural exchange, and be a channel and means of contact for new arrivals to the Northern Territory, as well as to help lessen the impact of loneliness and hardship of settling into a new environment.

The association holds several major events throughout the year, particularly those celebrating significant occasions in the Japanese calendar, including Tanabata (Star Festival-July) and Bunka No Hi (Culture Day-November). AJANT also celebrates the cultural diversity of the NT with a Harmony Day event occurring in March each year.
