Report – Australia Japan Society of Coffs Harbour BBQ

Although forecast for rain, Saturday`s Australia Japan Society was blessed with dry weather.

Over forty people joined the BBQ lunch which featured Kamishibai traditional Japanese story telling and the auction of one of Haruyo-san`s beautiful kimono jigsaw puzzles.

In my eyes, the highlight was to see all the children playing together in the park.
Many of the children were of mixed marriages of Japanese and Australians.  In Japan, they may be called “half” but with the best of Japan and Australia, we call them “double”, and they represent the future of a prosperous relationship between the two countries.

Our next event on the calendar is the Multicultural Food and Dance festival Sunday 11 October.
We have invited the famous Taiko Drum family to the festival to teach Coffs Harbour a Japanese dance.
Their performance is scheduled for 11am for 45min at the Jetty Sunday Markets.
We hope that you will join us in your Yukata or Happi coats on the day and show Coffs Harbour the fun of cultural exchange.

Our membership is steadily growing and we have much to offer members in the future.
I hope you will join with us to grow the membership.
