The National Symposium on Japanese Language Education (NSJLE) is a biennial two-day conference for Japanese language educators at all levels and sectors from all Australian states and territories. It is organised by the Monash Japanese Language Education Centre and The Japan Foundation, Sydney.
NSJLE aims to provide a platform for teachers and stakeholders to discuss issues of national interest and network with their peers from around the country to encourage a stronger national network of Japanese language educators.
The theme of the 2026 National Symposium on Japanese Language Education, Empowering Educators, Enriching Education, recognises the essential role teachers play in shaping the future of Japanese language learning in Australia. While the field continues to navigate shifting priorities, increased pressures and changing expectations — both from outside the classroom and within our own professional contexts — empowering educators remains crucial.
